I would like to ask Douglas Esq. how he recieves forgiveness for his sins (?).
Have you had 'any' of your sins forgiven Mr. Del Tondo?
If you have had your sins forgiven, did you earn the forgivness yourself? Or did you trust in Jesus sacrifice on the Cross, who paid the price, you or Jesus?
If you did not pay the price, and Christ did, how did you recieve forgivness?
Thats right - by Grace - through Faith, then why are you arguing against salvation by Grace?
It is hard to figure your doctrine out Mr. Del Tondo because you are telling us on one hand that Salvation by Grace is a lie made up by Paul, and on the other hand you are telling us we must keep on continuing to believe, believe what, that were saved by grace or not?
Douglas please tell us, if you are able to keep the whole Law, and what are you going to do when you have not?
Who will save you, and why? Will it be your ability to keep the Law that saves you?
It is said that ‘Salvation by Grace alone’ throws out the Law of Moses and substitutes a cheap easy salvation without consequences for sin.
It is said that since Paul taught Salvation by Grace alone; Paul throws out the Law of Moses, and substitutes a cheap easy salvation.
All the world religions teach a works salvation, Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, Mormonism, Jehovah Witness so if you think you’re going to earn your way to heaven then it doesn’t matter what religion you join.
Yet the Old Testament teaches that God forgives sin, the work he demands for the forgiveness of sins is the sacrifice of animals,
The Bible shows that man cannot get to God by his own effort. Note: The Tower of Babel
The Bible shows that God is the One that saves and redeems His people. Note: The Exodus, the Red Sea, the Walls of Jericho, Gideon
The Bible shows that Gods Spirit works through people to redeem His people. Note: Noah, Moses in Egypt, Joshua, Gideon, David and Goliath, Samson and the Phillistines,
The Bible shows that God demands animal sacrifice as payment for sin. Note: Abel and Cain, Abraham and Issac, The Law; see Leviticus, Duetronomy.
The Bible shows that unless God shows you Grace the penalty for sin is death. Note: The Garden of Eden, Uzzah,
The Bible shows that God has condemned the whole world guilty of sin. Note: The world wide flood.
The Bible shows that all men sin or have a nature to sin. Note: Adam and Eve, Cain, the whole world in Noah’s time, Abraham, Issac, Jacob,
The Bible shows that God is the One that ‘chooses’ who He will work through to save His people. Note: Noah, Abraham, Sara, Joseph, Rebbecha, Joshua, Moses, Aaron, David, Samuel, Jonah, Jerimiah, Amos, Isaiah, Hosea, John the Baptist, Mary, Peter, Matthew, John, Zachius, etc…
All the world religions teach a works salvation, Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, Mormonism, Jehovah Witness so if you think you’re going to earn your way to heaven then it doesn’t matter what religion you join, good luck with that. These scriptures show that Paul not only upholds the Law of Moses, Paul also taught that the Law involves caring, respect, consideration, kindness, charity, truth and love. Paul taught that all these things have their origin and purpose in Christ Jesus and in the sacrifice He made for us with His blood.
These scriptures show that Paul teaches that we must keep the Law, not to get saved but out of respect to God for our having salvation. Paul upholds ‘Jesus’ as the one who fulfills the Law, and that by ‘His Holy Spirit’ working in us, and our seeking, walking in, and following ‘His Holy Spirit’ we ‘can’ fulfill the Law’.
God demands repentance and He rewards good works, but rewards are ‘benefits’ added to our account. Contrary to popular belief there is no get out of Purgatory early for good behavior program. God has gone through many chapters and books to prove to us that ‘good behavior’ does not ‘change’ our ‘human nature’.
We do not get to pick and choose which of our works we take to God, we ‘will’ be going to God with ‘all’ our works, good and bad (Rev.20:11-12).
Good works do not cancel out bad works, your good works will not make a sin disappear since God has said there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. Only God can pardon sin. It is likely the Judge will be Jesus, so will you stand before the throne on which Jesus as a lamb slain is sitting and present to Him ‘your good’ works as a payment for sin?
Do you think your good works will reduce your sin debt?
One day we will be standing before God Almighty as the One bruised for our iniquitys, who was put to death on a cross (Who at the same time had power to create or dissolve the entire universe at will).
Will you be wondering why your Judge is covered in blood and hanging on a cross?
As you are gathering all your ‘good deeds for your forgiveness case’ before God the Judge of the world, will you be confused as to why He appears as a Lamb who was slain? (Rev.5:6, 8, 12, 13)
It would be much wiser to be standing among the crowd singing the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God, the Almighty; Righteous and true are Your ways, King of the nations! "Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; (Rev.15:3-4).
In Romans 1:18-31 Paul reminds us that God will not accept Religion and ignorance as an excuse for not knowing the truth of God. Romans 1:18-31 is as relative today as it was then:
'For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse…21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened…'
32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
Paul does not excuse those who ‘knew’ God, nor those who ‘know the ordinances’ of God. (This agrees with what Isaiah says in Isa.1:3 and 1:11, and Jeremiah 2:8, 11, 13, 17)
So knowing God or knowing the Law is not enough, sin is sin and the result is death.
Doug has accused Paul of not talking of repentance in his preaching.
Paul’s letters are filled with Gods condemnation of sin. Teaching people that they need to stop sinning is the same thing as telling them to turn from sin, so this accusation is ill-conceived and ignorant.
The very first chapter of Romans is a judgment against Jew and Gentile alike, and Paul because of his dual citizenship includes himself in this judgment. The whole purpose of the chapter is for us to see our sins toward God, realize our sins and to admit our guilt.
1 Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.3 But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God' (Romans 2:1)
(Paul gives a healthy rebuke of hypocrisy and self righteousness above in Rom. 2:1-5)
(Jesus gives many similar condemnations, as in Matthew 23:23-29)
All the judgments and threats of wrath from God throughout the Old Testament are meant to ‘turn’ us back to God, they are meant to ‘turn’ us from our sin.
"I sent a plague among you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young men by the sword along with your captured horses, And I made the stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me," declares the LORD.11 "I overthrew you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand snatched from a blaze; Yet you have not returned to Me," declares the LORD.12 "Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel."
The word ‘repent’ is in the meaning of all of Gods judgments and without actually being in the text, we know that it is implied. It has been this way all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Like other biblical prophets; John the Baptist does not expect the crowds to repent simply by saying ‘repent!’ John described openly the sin’s that consumed the people. John declared Gods displeasure and wrath while he also declared Gods Holiness. Paul in the same way gives the ‘reasons’ why we need to repent. (Amos 4:10-12)
God who will render to each person according to his deeds:7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.9 There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek,10 but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 2:6)
If a person dies who is not a Jew, then is he free from Gods punishment?
Since he never had the Law of Moses how can God judge him by it?
Then there must be another law by which God will judge, tell me what law does God use? This question is as relevant today as it was then, the worlds answer is ‘moral relativism’. But if that is how God judges, then it would not be fair to the person who grows up in a strict society, when he would have been far better off on judgment day had he had been born in a very liberal society.
12 For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law;13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves,15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,16 on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
The Jew Is Condemned by the Law
17 But if you bear the name "Jew" and rely upon the Law and boast in God,18 and know His will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law,19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,20 a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth,21 you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal?22 You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?23 You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?24 For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," just as it is written.
25 For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.26 So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?27 And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law?28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
Paul on the Law;
1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.3 What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it?4 May it never be....5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? 8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), "Let us do evil that good may come"? Their condemnation is just. 9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin. Romans 3:1
If we do not yet understand that all of us are sinners, go back and read the Old Testament. If you feel you are righteous still, go on and walk into the presense of God, the Holy of Holies. You can bypass Jesus because you don’t need “Jesus the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. Jesus who “came for sinners”: “to set the captives free”. What are they captive to? ‘Sin’
The Gospel is not just about the forgiveness, but the death and resurrection of our life with His life. God’s Word and His Spirit are our bread and water, our power and life.
John 5:41
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.64 But there are some of you who do not believe."
John 7:38 …"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Luke 24:49 And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
If Jesus forgave you of your sins today, what will you be tomorrow? A forgiven sinner, but still a sinner. If you could not stop sinning before, and you can’t stop sinning after, what have you done but expect that Jesus forgave you, and now you are going to sin again? And you expect Jesus to forgive you again, Jesus is then like a toll booth. This is not what Jesus has planned, His plan is to help us, to rescue us from our sins, not just from the penalty. To free us from the sins that burden and ensnare. His plan is to be with us, to live in us to be one with us. This is way to overcome sin because He is the only one who has defeated sin. God is the one with whom we find the power and reason and everything, it is not from us.
Del Tondo’s theology is completely void of Gods power and Spirit. His salvation seems completely based on mans effort to save himself. The love, compassion and forgiveness of the Gospel is certainly lacking in the theology of this book.
To Del Tondo the Gospel is a return to Judaism. Jesus did not come preaching circumcision. Jesus did not say “Go into all the world and convert them all to Judaism”.
